RGV, the trend-setting director has never been influenced by the success or otherwise of his films. He is one who makes films for art’s sake and not for any other reason. Even after a long spate of flops, the RGV craze is still intact and people flood the hteaters whenever he brings another story to the screen. Satya-2, released recently is another such offering from RGV.
Movie: Satya-2
Producer: M Samanth Kumar Reddy
Music: Kary Arora and Amar Mohile
Director: Ram Gopal Varma
Cast: Sharwanand, Anaika Soti
Off the screen :
Satya-2 is the sequel to probably the biggest pathbreaking film in Indian Cinema. Having an extremely talented artist like Sharwanand in the lead makes this project all the more exciting. The gangsters are not yet finished.
On the screen :
Satya-2, is the story of Satya, who is a typical youngster who arrives in Hyderabad with the intention to be a big man. He works for a Gangster-backed construction outfit. In the course of his duties, Satya manages to pull off a very risky hit with ease. This impresses everyone in the gang and makes way for Satya’s entry into the gang. Satya rises step by step to lead the gang.
Satya slowly gains a lot of power and establishes ‘the company’, which runs a parallel government in the city. The administration is hell-bent on crushing this underworld power. The rest of the story is the war between the authorities and ‘The Company’. Will Satya Succeed?
Positives :
* Sharwanand is the main positive of this flick. He is probably the perfect for the brooding youngster whose ambition carries him to the top .
* The movie has some gripping sequences and is definitely entertaining in the first half .
* The audiences were treated a classic RGV show for most part of the movie .
* The RGV touch is apparent in the way the photography has been handled .
Negatives :
* Routine storyline. Huge comparisons can be drawn to Mahesh Babu’s ‘Businessman’ .
* The second half of the film is a major disappointment. After a very gripping presentation until the interval, the audiences are just let down from the interval onwards .
* The songs are a very big hindrance. The movie’s fervor and pace are largely disturbed .
* The lead actress was another misfire. Maybe bringing in a new face is not a sure shot everytime Mr Varma.
Verdict :
Satya-2 is a tale of what could have been. A possible reboot of the cult flick ‘Satya’, Satya-2 could not even come close. This one is definitely for the hardcore RGV fans who have been missing a touch of his genius for quite some time now. RGV gives a subtle hint why he is a master. Maybe the next time around he will keep it up for the entire length of the film. One can only hope. Go watch the film for a taste of the master.
