Catherine Tresa, the name that is making waves in TFI now. The silky beauty from Kottayam is TFI’s latest Mallu import. Catherine spent most part of her life in Dubai with her parents. This is probably the main reason that she cannot fluently converse in Malayalam, she says. Although, she’s quickly learning to speak in Telugu as she feels that she can best voice herself than any dubbing artiste. Catherine’s entry into the glam world was naturally via the modeling world. Catherine has modeled for highly popular and influential brands such as Fast Track, Nalli silks, Jasco Jewelers Chennai Silks and even for Deccan Chronicle. She also boasts of being featured in Maharaja Srikantadatta Wodeyar’s calendar.
These modeling assignments got her an opportunity to act in a Kannada film. She went on to act in a couple of Malayalam Films after that. Catherine’s foray into Malayalam cinema was well noted but frankly, failed to make any sort of real impact. It was her second Kannada project with Kannada superstar Upendra that got her noticed. Catherine’s performance as a mentally challenged person in Upendra’s ‘Godfather’ got her a lot of recognition and offers from the Telugu Film Industry. Her first film in Telugu was Neelkanta’s ‘Chammak Challo’ opposite Varun Sandesh of Happy day’s fame. This movie could not perform at the box office but it got Catherine proper recognition.
Puri Jagannadh’s ‘Iddarammayiltho’ got Catherine widespread recognition almost instantly. Catherine has now fully arrived on the Telugu scene. Her upcoming film with Nani, Krishna Vamsi’s Paisa, will see her portray the role of a reserved and inhibited Muslim girl. The stills for the movie have already gotten gorgeous Catherine all the attention she needs and more. Industry sources also report that Catherine has bagged Koratala Siva’s new project opposite Mega Power Star Ram Charan Teja. Catherine sure is going places bagging the right kind of films very early in her career.
A self-confessed shy and reserved girl, Catherine belongs to a completely academically oriented family, as is the wont with most South Indian families. It was her passion and enthusiasm that brought her close to the glam world. The beauty with the Thunder thighs, Catherine has great hopes for the future. However, TFI has already seen many heroines come, create a buzz and fizzle out just quickly. One can only hope that Catherine will not go the ‘Swetha Basu’ way and choose her projects carefully. Getting a launch pad the way she has is difficult but working with the Mega cousins will be enough for her to bag big projects. We can only wait and watch whether Catherine makes a greater impact on the industry or fizzles out quietly like Meera Jasmine.
